How Valerie collects, uses, and protects your personal data.

Last updated: 18 October 2026

1. Who we are

Valerie operates valerie.ng and seller subdomains as a marketplace technology provider. This policy explains how we handle personal data for buyers, sellers, and visitors. Merchants are independent controllers of buyer data they collect to fulfil orders (e.g. shipping addresses); Valerie processes order and payment metadata to operate checkout and receipts.

2. Data we collect

  • Account data: name, email, phone, password (hashed), role, store details.
  • Transaction data: orders, payment references, payout bank details, proof-of-payment uploads.
  • Listing data: product photos, descriptions, prices, analytics (views, clicks).
  • Technical data: IP address, device/browser type, cookies, session identifiers, security logs.
  • Communications: support messages, reviews, and notification preferences.

3. How we use data

  • Provide accounts, storefronts, checkout, and seller payouts.
  • Prevent fraud, enforce terms, and maintain platform security.
  • Send transactional emails (orders, receipts, password resets).
  • Improve discovery, stories, and marketplace features (with consent where required).
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

4. Legal bases

We process data based on contract performance (running your account and orders), legitimate interests (security, analytics, product improvement), legal obligation, and consent (marketing cookies and optional communications).

5. Sharing with third parties

  • Wavy / partner banks — payment processing and merchant settlement (Valerie does not hold buyer funds).
  • Cloud hosting & CDN — infrastructure and image delivery.
  • Email and push providers — transactional notifications.
  • Analytics & error monitoring — where enabled and consented, to improve reliability.
  • We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

6. Retention

We retain account and transaction records as long as your account is active and as required for tax, fraud prevention, and dispute resolution (typically up to 7 years for financial records where applicable).

7. Your rights

  • Access, correct, or delete personal data where applicable.
  • Withdraw marketing consent and manage cookie preferences.
  • Request a copy of data we hold about you via legal@valerie.ng.
  • Lodge a complaint with a relevant data protection authority.

8. Security

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, hashed passwords, and monitoring. See our Security page for more detail. No system is 100% secure — report concerns immediately.

9. International transfers

Data may be processed on servers outside Nigeria where our providers operate, with appropriate safeguards and contractual protections.

10. Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.
